INFNet

INFN carries on most of its activity within international collaborations: its experiments are developed in collaboration with the most important Laboratories and Research Institutes. Just to support scientist to work in remote experiments and facilitate them to interact within distributed collaborations, INFN got a private network, INFNet, since '90 fully integrated in the Italian Academic network, GARR . A map of INFN connections to GARR-B is available here . Today INFNet points out areas of activities oriented to INFN network needs.

INFN set up in 1992 a National Center for Informatics and Telematics, CNAF , located in Bologna. CNAF proposes and realizes, in collaboration with other INFN Units, projects under the aegis of V National Scientific Committee, special projects and other specific INFNet activities.

INFNet activities, carried on by CNAf and INFN Working groups , are developed in the the following areas:

• Network development, based on INFN research needs:

  Documenti approvati dalla CRCS;

• new network technologies: ATM; IPv6 ;

• network distributed applications;
