PLATFORMS

SUMMARY:

• C7500: VIP4-80 if possible, or VIP2-50 for OC3 rates; no asic support of QoS features, IOS 12.1(5)T or higher for class-based shaping on any interface;
• C7200: see IOS above;
• GSR:
  • Engine 2 STM-16, quad STM-4, 3 GEth; WRED, MDRR, PIRC in hw;
  • Alternatively: Engine 0 Quad STM-1 POS or ATM for CAR and MDRR in sw;
  • Best: Engine 4 Quad-STM-16, for also CAR in hw;
  • no per class shaping.
• Cat 6500:(MSFC) 2 plus PFC2 for policing in hw; new 4 STM-4, STM-16 line cards?

• Cisco 7000 / Cisco 7500:
  • RSP 7000
  • VIP2-50 card or greater (VIP4-80 ?) is required for OC-3 rates (and needed for dWRED)
  • at least 2 MBy of SRAM
    Note 1: with VIP4-80 improves the performance of CAR; no ASIC support of CAR on this platform
    Note 2: no WRED support in hw

  • For per-VC distributed WRED on ATM interfaces: (see Per-Virtual Circuit (Distributed) WRED)
    • Cisco IOS version 12.0(3)T or higher; IOS 12.1(5)T for class based shaping on any interface;
    • Cisco 7500: VIP2-50, all PA-A3 versions (only one PA-A3 per VIP2-50).
    • Cisco 7200: NPE200 or higher, all PA-A3 versions.
• GSR:
  • Engine 0: (Quad STM-1 POS/ATM, single STM-4 POS/ATM and others)
  • Engine 1: (single GEth, 8 FEth, DPT 2XSTM-4)
    Engine 0 and 1 support CAR in sw; MDRR: in Engine 0 in sw
  • Engine 2: STM-16, Enhanced Quad OC-12/STM-4 Packet-over-SONET/SDH - 4 ports, MPLS-capable -, 8 and 16 STM-1, 3 GEth, Enhanced OC-48/STM-16 Packet-over-SONET/SDH.
    no support of CAR, PIRC in hw instead; WRED in hw; MDRR in hw

  • Engine 4: speed greater than 2.5 Gbps,

  • Switch Fabric Module (SFM): 256 Gbps (see SFM)
  • Supervisor Engine 2 (see Supervisor Engine)
  • Line Card Distributed Forwarding Card (DFC)- ?? (see DFC) Distributed Forwarding Daughter card must be installed on any line card
  • Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC) 2 - for Supervisor engine - plus PFC2 (see MSFC2, QoS features for Cat 6000)
    Note 1: OS: some features are available only if we run IOS and not CatOs (verify this);
    Note 2: new line cards for queuing, WRED, per-class shaping at line spped.
